What it catches
Real lists are messy. Exact matching isn't enough.
CRM exports, mailing lists, inventories: the same record gets typed in slightly different ways. DupeTidy scores how alike two rows are instead of asking whether they're identical.
Typos
One slipped key shouldn't hide a duplicate.
Different wording
Case, punctuation and common company suffixes are normalized first.
Reordered names
Words are compared regardless of order.
Across columns
Match on several columns at once, so two rows only pair up when the whole record agrees.

FAQ
Can I use it yet?
Not yet. DupeTidy is in development and still has to pass Google's Marketplace review. This page will link to the listing once it's approved.
Will it delete anything without asking?
No. It shows you the groups it found, and you choose what to remove or merge. Sheets' version history keeps the original either way.
How is this different from "Remove duplicates" in Sheets?
The built-in tool only removes rows that match character for character. DupeTidy compares how similar rows are, so it finds the near-duplicates that the built-in tool leaves behind.
Is DupeTidy made by Google?
No. It's built and sold by an independent developer. Google hosts the Marketplace listing but doesn't make or sell the add-on.
What can it access?
Only the spreadsheet you have open while you use it. The privacy policy lists every permission and why it's needed.
